High Speed Internet Forum / Service Providers / DSL / [DSL] Any advice on a ADSL to ADSL2 upgrade?

I've been with DSL Extreme for quite a few years now, so many I'm not sure how many but I'd guess getting towards nine or so years. In all that time almost no problems. A couple short outages but nothing to really complain about. The only real problem was the phone company wire oxidizing to dust. At work I deal with everything from T1's to OC-192's and despite the high cost of some of the higher bandwidth connections I don't find the service I receive from those companies to be significantly better than DSL Extreme's. I tried to help a friend troubleshoot his SBC Business line and after talking to their overseas help desk I really appreciate DSL Extreme's US help desk. So point being I didn't want to switch services to get more bandwidth and was lamenting not living in a Verizon neighborhood where I could try to get a FiOS dry loop through DSL Extreme. Of course that all turned out for the best because of Verizon's funny bait-and-switch scam () and because DSL Extreme added ADSL2. I wasn't sure about the Covad part but a co-worker tried a DSL Extreme ADSL2 new install and after a line problem related to hilly terrain where he lives he has had no problems.

My speed tests have always reported about 1.2mbps download and that has been more than enough. But lately with iTunes selling/renting HD content and NetFlix adding streaming content I suddenly feel like I need more bandwidth. 3mbps would be good, 4.5 or so would be great and the DSL Extreme pre-qualification said my location should be able to support the Elite package (6mbps).

But I really don't want an outage (I need broadband at home for work reasons) so if it's likely to take more than a day or so I need to re-think how I do this. Any advice or reports on how long a DSL Extreme ATT ADSL to ADSL 2 upgrade took from people who have already done it in CA?

Thanks!

P.S. And a question for DSL Extreme: I was looking at the 8 static IP package, but what I'd really like is a mix of static and dynamic IP addresses (so I can set up some VLANs, etc. on my home LAN). Is that possible?
