Dial-up internet access is available for subscribers through a home or office telephone line. The connection is achieved by hooking up to a modem connected to a telephone line to establish a modem-to-modem link.
Pros
- Requires no infra structure other than a telephone line
- Dial-up modems are inexpensive
- The overall service is inexpensive
- Available wherever there is a phone line
- ISP providers offer local dial-up numbers to eliminate long distance charges
Cons
- Ties up the telephone line while connected to the internet
- Cost can build up if there is not flat rate local calling on the lines
- Can be expensive if long distance charges are incurred
- Only “on” when you dial up
- Time limits for accessibility
- Very slow upload and download speeds
