Cable High Speed Internet

Cable high speed internet uses the cable television infrastructure to deliver broadband internet to your home or business. Like other fiber optic networks it bridges the final mile or kilometer from the internet provider to you, the subscriber. It is the predominant form of residential internet, layered on top of the existing cable television network.

Pros

  • Does not require a phone line
  • Always on, usually dependable
  • No dial up fee
  • Does not interfere with telephone calls
  • Supports data-heavy activities such as gaming
  • Substantially faster than most other services
  • Can be bundled with your cable television service

Cons

  • Sometimes slow, especially at peak hours
  • Initial installation of coaxial cable can be costly
  • Renters may be inhibited by high installation cost
  • Only available where there is cable television service
  • Can be costly for subscribers that don’t use it regularly
  • The more users that subscribe in your area, the less broadband you get
